Caledon Baseball Announces Changes to 5U, 7U and (U (Rookie Ball) Baseball
The ultimate goal of Caledon Baseball is for each player to have an enjoyable season and engage in new friendships through the sport of baseball.
Each child will enhance their baseball development while having fun and increasing their physical fitness level to their specific age group.
5U Baseball
The T-Ball division is a developmental league, designed to be a young person’s introduction to the sport.
The emphasis is on FUN, ACTION and POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE, where players are gaining the necessary skills to take part in the older ranks of Caledon Baseball and the adult game of baseball.
Caledon Baseball will be implementing Baseball Canada’s Rally Cap program for 2024.
Every night the players will be involved in a series of “practice” stations, working on skills which will improve their fundamental baseball skills (throwing with accuracy, hitting, and fielding), along with playing 2 mini baseball games. Fewer players on the teams will also mean more meaningful participation in the games and practice stations.
7U Baseball
The Rally Cap Program will also be introduced at the 7U level in order to promote more skill development.
The one major change to 7U will be the elimination of the “slingshot” and replaced with a pitching machine that will be able to throw a ball at approximately the same speed as the slingshot.
Additionally…in 7U, the following procedure will be used for the 2024 summer.
Until July 1—Each batter will receive up to 3 pitches from the pitching machine to hit a fair ball. If no fair ball is hit after these 3 pitches, the batting tee will be used for the next 2 pitches.
After July1—Each batter will receive 5 pitches from the pitching machine. No batting tee used. This new policy will be reviewed with input given by the coaches—before July 1.
The goal for Caledon Baseball is to provide all players the opportunity to develop their baseball skills while having a great time. We believe this change at 7U is a step in moving toward that goal.
9U (Rookie Ball)
The move for players from 7U to 9U baseball can be intimidating and in consultation with coaches, a major change is being implemented for the 2024 season.
Again, the goal for Caledon Baseball is to provide all players the opportunity to develop their baseball skills while having a great time. We believe this change at 9U (Rookie Ball) is a step in moving toward that goal.
